Elizabethan Full Outfit
Our big project in costume making for term 2 2014 was a full elizabethan inspired outfit. We started out with the undergarments, corset and pettycoats, created a bumroll to help with the right silhouette and then created the overskirt with forepart and the bodice. While we were asked to keep the shape historically accurate we were allowed to make our own choices in colors and decoration. I decided on a structured surface decoration with squares of gold ribbon folded, handstitched in place and accentuated with pearls.
In addition to the costume we used our millinery class to develop a headpiece to go with it. Inspired by the lines of a french hood we took our own take on the shape and decoration to tie it in with the main costume.
This costume was shown in the Toi Whakaari Costume Showcase in November 2014 as part of the first year group presentation and can be seen in the video linked below.
Base of dress made from cream calico with elements in turquoise cotton lawn. Trimmings in gold ribbon, embroidery thread and pearls.
